Age-Appropriate Responsibilities for Every Toddler
Share
Children need to learn not just how to take care of themselves but also how to take care of their home and surrounding. This has tremendous benefits on their fine motor skills and hand-to-eye coordination but it also teaches them life-long skills like responsibility and time management.
At younger ages (1-3 years old), you may be confused by which chores or responsibility are appropriate for your child's given age.
For this reason, we've gathered some of the basic practical life activities that your little one can definitely try and learn from!
- Invite them to clean their own mess. This can involve wiping off the floor after they've dropped something, putting their toys out, or handing you the plate after they've done eating.
- Allow them to choose what to wear. To avoid overwhelming them with choices, lay out no more than 2 to 3 options for them to choose from.
- Feeding themselves. Unless they are asking for your help, at this stage, you can allow them to feed themselves (we know this can get messy, so patience is key here).
- Let them pick out their own toys and books.
- They can even help out with laundry (putting their clothes into the hamper or washing machine with your supervision or transport piles of laundry to family members).
For safety concerns, some of the above-mentioned activities may require your presence. What also helps in this process is using safe and age-appropriate tools. Our Practical Life Set offers just that - you can empower your child and make them feel confident in their abilities while also ensuring their safety and peace of mind.
